How do I?

Create a library of colors — or is there one already in the app?

[NOTE:  This question was asked by a quilter using an older iPad that does not have a built-in camera.]
There is not a library of colors already in the app. However, it is possible to get images into the app without using a camera.

Below are instructions for two different methods:

Method 1 - Search the internet for an image, then take a screen snapshot

1) Find an image —
  • Use the Safari browser to search the internet using Google or other search engine. For example, the search "red fabric” will find many images - solids, prints and a variety of textures.
  • Select an image. (NOTE: The more the image fills the screen the better the results.)
2) Take a screenshot by using the built in image-capture feature --
  • Briefly press BOTH the "home" button and the "power" button at the same time.
  • The iPad will make a shutter-click sound and briefly flash the screen. This means the picture on the screen has been successfully added to the Photo Image library.
3) Add the new fabric to the QuiltSandwich app --
  • Open the QuiltSandwich app and select the Fabrics tab.
  • Select "+ New Fabric" and then "Photo Library Image".
  • Next tap “Saved Photos" and tap your screenshot (it will be at the end of the list).
  • Then, use pinch and drag to get the image just right before saving it as the fabric image.

Method 2 - Use an app to create color images
1) Open a paint program app --
  • If you don’t have one already, find an app that can create a full screen of color.  A paint program is best, but other programs that might work include a flashlight or color converter program.  It is getting harder to find programs can be loaded on the original iPad, but we found one that does and it is fairly easy to use.  It is called Prismatic and it is free (with ads).
2) Use the app to create and save as a full screen color image.  (It is not necessary to capture a screenshot.)
3) Add the new fabric to the QuiltSandwich app --
  • Open the QuiltSandwich app and select the Fabrics tab.
  • Select "+ New Fabric" and then "Photo Library Image".
  • Next tap “Saved Photos" and tap your new image (it will be at the end of the list).
  • Then, use pinch and drag to get the image just right before saving it as the fabric image.
