1. Open a photo from your Camera Roll or digital image in Color Hints Mosaic.
Use CH Mosaic to transform the image into pixels by changing settings and moving sliders to set piece shape (square, rectangle, or triangle). Control the abstraction by adjusting the number of pieces and colors. When the design is just right, tap to Share to QuiltSandwich.

2. Color Hints Mosaic opens a popup to share to QuiltSandwich.
In the popup [1] set the piece size to determine the overall quilt size and [2] set how many pieces should be part of each patchwork block.

Open QuiltSandwich to see the instantly created pixel quilt pattern
After a tap to Import, QuiltSandwich instantly adds the Quilt with yardage and cutting diagrams for each color as well as yardage for backing, batting and binding. Open the Journal for the overall quilt pattern and a full set of individual block patterns.
Summary of HOW TO MAKE A PIXEL QUILT
- Upload a photo from your device photo library into Color Hints Mosaic.
- Choose squares, rectangles or triangles
- Set number of pieces
- Adjust number of colors shown in the palette, playing with settings until just right.
- Tap Limit button then Share button in Color Hints Mosaic to send the design to QuiltSandwich.
- QuiltSandwich app will open and ask your help with the two settings it needs to create the pattern:
Piece size
Number of pieces per block (sets the block layout pattern) - QuiltSandwich instantly adds the quilt and creates the pattern in the Journal. Now you can start choosing your fabrics! Fabrics and the Compare and Swap tools can help find and swap in fabrics for the colors in the palette using your stash or while shopping.
- The yardage and cutting diagrams will guide you as you cut the pieces. Then, follow the patterns in the Journal to assemble the blocks and join them into the final quilt assembly. Note the quilt pattern also included yardage and cutting diagrams for the batting, backing and binding.
